Safe Streets, Stronger Communities
Safety is the foundation of a livable city. In Ward Anirniq, it means being able to let your children play outside without fear, walk to school safely, take transit with confidence, and feel secure in your home and throughout your neighborhood. Across Edmonton, it means being able to park your car without worry, enjoy an event downtown, or simply move through the city without feeling vulnerable. These everyday experiences should feel safe, not uncertain.
Transit hubs like Northgate Transit Centre continue to raise concerns around low-level crime, inadequate lighting, and limited surveillance, making routine trips feel unsafe for many residents. Across the Ward, property crime, including break-ins, theft, and vehicle vandalism, continue to undermine the sense of security in several neighborhoods.
Priorities:
• Improve safety around transit hubs, parks, and shared-use paths through better lighting, design, and surveillance
• Address property crime with community-specific strategies and improved coordination with EPS
• Implement targeted traffic calming to reduce speeding and dangerous driving
• Support visible, community-engaged policing that builds trust with residents
• Design and maintain public spaces for safety and comfort with visibility, family-friendly amenities, and regular upkeep
